Saturday 25th April
91 Living Room
Rising star, trombonist, band leader and composer Christ-Stéphane Boizi brings new jazz music fusing influences from gospel, mid 20th century innovators, later day torch bearers and contemporary New York artists. Vibrant, swinging contemporary sounds from a group of fantastic young players.
An exciting new voice on the London Jazz scene, Christ-Stephane’s music is at once a vibrant celebration of Jazz’s great past, very much in the present and looking to the future. Notable for his inquisitive studious approach, relaxed poise and warm leadership, Boizi is a student of melody, harmony, rhythm and soul, striving to hone in on what makes the work of greats from across the rich history of jazz so powerful, and to apply these learnings in his own music. This sextet is a brilliant constellation embodying the movement of young London players exploring and performing music inspired by happening mid century jazz.
Currently in his fourth year studying at Trinity Laban, Christ-Stéphane is an alumni of Kinetika Bloco and Tomorrow’s Warriors' development programme. He has performed at We Out Here Festival, Ronnie Scott’s, the Jazz Café, The Royal Albert Hall Elgar Room, Jazz Refreshed, Pizza Express Soho and The Queen Elizabeth Hall.
