South African DJ and producer Esa Williams has gathered a number of uber-talented musicians to form Esa’s Afro-Synth Band; a collective that focuses on taking you through a journey of grooves and rhythms via their synths and percussion.

Combining the creative talents of young artists Chisara, Ami Koda and Alexander Burke (aka Forest Law) alongside Esa, together the four of them embody the collective mission to revive the legacy of South African dance music born during apartheid. To do so they enlist the help of special guests to perform live with them in ever-changing evolution of the band, while also laying down original studio tracks, edits and reworks that has seen them release on Rush Hour, Ninja Tune and work with Keleketla!, Harvey Sutherland and more. Their 2019 European tour saw Ntombi Ndaba perform for the first time outside of South Africa, bringing her long-eclipsed sound to a Western Audience.

Fast-forward to 2022 and it was the turn of the legendary Kamazu who helped mould the musical direction of the Afro-Synth Bands tours. First releasing music in the mid-80s, he is still going strong with a re-release on Soundway Records and feature vocals alongside Esa’s productions on his new AWEH Music imprint.
