Gayance is a critically acclaimed Haitian-Canadian DJ, producer, and storyteller whose deeply personal music fuses global Black rhythms (New York, Rio, London, Jacmel) with electronic innovation. She has established herself as a vital voice in the electronic music diaspora in cities where she was based in Montreal, Amsterdam, Lisbon, & Brussels, expertly weaving Caribbean heritage, Montreal roots, and international influences into her sound.
Born in Montreal, Canada, to a Haitian-Cuban family. She grew up around Caribbean church music and gospel. From early childhood until university, she danced actively: ballet, tap dance, break dance, contemporary & hip hop. She pursued an education in cinema & communication. While in school, she directed a documentary called “Piu Piu, a film about Montreal beat scene” (2012), which features KAYTRANADA, High Klassified, and more. She achieved a crucial moment in Montreal’s music history.
She worked in media: VICE, Noisey France, Radio-Canada. Gayance was raised by two parents active in their community and learn at a young age that knowledge is power and culture could be the vessel for it. She used workshop sessions for QTBIPOC as her way to keep the knowledge circulating in her community. As a kid, her dream was to travel the world and experience various cultures. She is an autodidact polyglot. Her quest was mostly to buy vinyls abroad and fill up her collection with memories. She even worked in some of the best music stores on the East Coast of North America and Europe. Gayance had a residency radio show at n10as (Montreal), CKUT (Montreal), ESR (Lisbon), RRFM (Amsterdam) and Kiosk Radio (Brussels) from 2016-now.
