Saturday 25th April
91 Living Room
An emerging player in the nu-jazz and UK soul scene, MADELEINE is a singer, songwriter and producer taking influence from the progressive electronics of Flying Lotus and Kiefer, whilst showcasing the tuneful sensibilities of songwriters Lianne La Havas and Stevie Wonder. With support from BBC Radio 2, Jazz FM, and Wordplay, she’s also a celebrated session musician, touring the world as keyboardist for the likes of Olivia Dean, Nubiyan Twist, and Rachel Chinouriri. The influences of her travels can be heard across her 2023 mixtape ‘Sun Daughter’, providing snapshots of the sonics of late night drives across the USA set against naturalistic imagery and soulful, jazz-tinged songwriting.
Her latest offering, a self-produced work entitled, ‘Dreamer’, is a collaboration with New Soil and Women in Jazz for their recent compilation 'Women In Jazz Vol.1’.
Having grown up in a musical family, MADELEINE’s influences are rooted in jazz, soul, and fusion genres. Training classically on the piano and violin from the age of 7, she started her musical journey consuming an eclectic range of genres. Watching her mother performing as a jazz pianist from an early age encouraged her to pursue a career as an instrumentalist, as well as a vocalist. After studying at The BRIT School, MADELEINE went on to explore popular music at Goldsmiths University of London, where she began to explore a deeper songwriting narrative. Making a name for herself in the London Nu-Jazz Scene as a keys player, she began to expand her sound as a producer, and released her acclaimed debut EP ‘Colour Me’ in 2021. Since then she has played keys for artists such as Jorja Smith, Arlo Parks, Raveena, and more.
