Diaspora Rhythms: Music, Migration, and the South Asian Experience in London

Friday 24th April • 14:00-15:00 • Flow State Hub, Ely’s Yard, E1 6QR

London’s musical landscape has long been shaped by migration. This panel focuses on the histories and lived experiences of South Asian communities in the city, including on Brick Lane itself — and how these narratives intersect with evolving music scenes.

The discussion will trace how diasporic identity, cultural memory and intergenerational exchange influence sound, space and artistic expression. From community gatherings and grassroots club nights to contemporary hybrid genres, panellists will examine how South Asian musicians and organisers have contributed to London’s cultural fabric.

By situating music within broader conversations around migration, belonging and representation, the session offers historical context alongside contemporary reflection. It invites a deeper understanding of how diaspora communities shape, and are shaped by, the city’s creative ecosystems.
