The New Industry Playbook: DIY, Labels, and What’s Next

Thursday 23rd April • 12:00-13:00 • Flow State Hub, Ely’s Yard, E1 6QR

The structures that once defined the music industry are rapidly evolving. In this forward-looking panel, artists and progressive industry leaders examine how careers are being built in an era shaped by digital distribution, social platforms and shifting revenue models.

The conversation will explore the growing spectrum between fully independent practice and traditional label partnerships. What does DIY truly mean in 2026? When does independent release strategy serve an artist best, and when can a label provide meaningful leverage - from marketing infrastructure to international reach?

Panellists will consider ownership, sustainability and long-term career planning, reflecting on how artists are balancing creative autonomy with the realities of touring, streaming economics and audience development. Rather than presenting a single blueprint, the session maps the range of approaches currently shaping contemporary music careers - offering practical insight into how today’s artists are adapting to, and actively redefining, the industry’s playbook.
