Money Talks: Demystifying Funding for Jazz and Arts Projects

Friday 24th April • 11:30-12:30 • Flow State Hub, Ely’s Yard, E1 6QR

Securing funding remains one of the most complex and least transparent aspects of working in the arts. This panel brings together the funders themselves to unpack how jazz and independent arts projects are financed — and what applicants need to understand before they apply.

The discussion will cover public funding structures, grant-making processes, commissioning routes and partnership models, alongside practical guidance on budgeting, timelines and eligibility criteria. Panellists will reflect on real-world case studies, highlighting both successful approaches and common pitfalls — from misaligned project proposals to unrealistic delivery plans.

By clarifying how decision-making works within funding bodies and cultural institutions, the session aims to equip artists and organisers with clearer strategies for navigating applications and building sustainable projects. Grounded in lived experience from both sides of the process, the panel offers a rare opportunity to demystify the financial frameworks that underpin contemporary jazz and arts programming.

Speakers:

  • Clara Cullen (Help Musicians)

  • Shannon-Latoyah Simon (British Council)

  • Elizabeth Sills (PRS Foundation)

  • Yvette Griffith (NYJO)

  • Moderator to be announced.
